{"id":2010,"date":"2019-05-19T17:40:21","date_gmt":"2019-05-19T17:40:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.etchiboy.com\/en\/?page_id=2010"},"modified":"2020-04-24T16:26:33","modified_gmt":"2020-04-24T16:26:33","slug":"history-of-the-metis-sash","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.etchiboy.com\/en\/history-of-the-metis-sash\/","title":{"rendered":"History of the M\u00e9tis Sash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Quick M\u00e9tis sash history.<\/p>\n<p>Started with the French bringing wool from Europe combine with the weaving techniques of the First-Nations.<\/p>\n<p>Then the Voyageur or Coureurs de Bois were meeting up with First Nations communities to trade for furs.<\/p>\n<p>The Voyageur were wearing generally red sash made on looms from Europe.\u00a0 These sashes were in high demand from the First-Nations.\u00a0 The more colour a sash had the more value it could have.\u00a0 Many women in the region of l&#8217;Assomption started a cottage industry making colourful finger woven sashes for the fur trade companies like the Hudson&#8217;s Bay Company and the North-West Company.<\/p>\n<p>In the 1850&#8217;s the Hudson Bay Company started making there sashes on Jacquard looms near Coventry England.<\/p>\n<p>In the early 1900&#8217;s the sash industry collapse due to lack of demand.<\/p>\n<p>In 1955, sashes started being made for the Carnaval de Qu\u00e9bec on an industrial loom. This was basically the only commercial sash that could be bought in bulk for 60 years.<\/p>\n<p>In 2007 \u00c9tchiboy started making hand loomed historical sashes.<\/p>\n<p>Today, everything is evolving so quickly, people are making sashes for their groups, families, weddings or just to be unique and proud.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Quick M\u00e9tis sash history.
